Organic Care of California BLOG

Here is a few Blogs written by the owners Chaz & Shantel Cornellier about the industry and things they have experienced or learned while owning a cannabis delivery service in Chico, Ca in 2017 under Prop 215 and then moving to Sacramento to own a State Liscensed Delivery, C9-0000003-LIC, immediately in 2018. It has been a crazy ride and Chaz loves to explain what the market is doing and how he sees the company doing in the near future.

How to Properly Extinguish and Store Your Joint or Pre-Roll for Later Use

When enjoying a joint or pre-roll, there might be occasions when you can't or don't want to finish it in one go. Whether you're conserving your stash or simply had enough, knowing how to properly extinguish and store your joint for later use is essential for maintaining its quality and ensuring safety. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do just that.

Step 1: Extinguishing Your Joint

The first step is to properly extinguish your joint. This is important not only for safety but also to preserve the remaining material for future use.

Avoid Crushing: Instead of crushing the burning end as you would a cigarette, gently tap your joint on an ashtray. Crushing can compress the remaining material, making it harder to relight.
Let it Burn Out: Alternatively, you can just let the joint stop burning on its own. Place it in an ashtray and wait for a few minutes until the ember dies out.
Check for Embers: Ensure the joint is fully extinguished before storage. Any remaining ember can ruin the joint or, worse, pose a fire hazard.

Step 2: Cooling Down

Before storing your joint, it's important to let it cool down. Placing a warm joint into a container can affect the humidity inside, which might alter the quality of your product.

Wait a Few Minutes: After extinguishing your joint, let it sit for a few minutes.
Check the Temperature: Make sure it's completely cooled down before proceeding to the next step. Blow any remaining smoke out gently. This preserves the taste.

Step 3: Choosing the Right Storage

The key to storing your joint is to keep it in a dry, airtight container. This helps preserve its potency and flavor.

Use an Airtight Container: Small, airtight containers designed for cannabis are ideal. You can also use a doob tube, which is specifically made for storing joints.
Avoid Plastic Bags: While convenient, plastic bags aren't the best for maintaining quality, as they can lead to a change in the taste and smell.

Step 4: Storing Your Joint

Now it's time to store your joint safely.

Gently Place the Joint: Avoid compressing or bending the joint while placing it in your container.
Store in a Cool, Dark Place: Exposure to heat, light, or moisture can degrade the quality of your joint. A drawer or cabinet works well.

Step 5: Relighting

When you're ready to relight your joint, be aware that the flavor might be slightly altered. This is normal due to the partial burning and exposure to air.

Check Before Relighting: Inspect your joint for any mold or unusual smells, especially if it's been stored for a while.
Relight Carefully: The joint might be harder to light than a fresh one. Take your time and rotate it to get an even burn.

Conclusion

Properly extinguishing and storing your joint or pre-roll can enhance your experience and save your cannabis for later use. By following these steps, you can ensure that your next session is just as enjoyable as the first.

Remember, Enjoy responsibly!
